I've been thinking that we (Sloan) needed to do a hack to improve our geek cred on campus.

Didn't know you had a blog, Trond, but it's on my bloglines list now.

Hazing at Northwestern

BadJocks.com is reporting that the Northwestern girls soccer team has been suspended pending an investigation into hazing. Apparently, pictures turned up with the girls blindfolded, in their underwear and with stuff written on them. They speculate that alcohol was involved.

Now, while I agree that this seems pretty tame as far as "hazing" goes, its interesting that it happened at NU. Mainly because the school has been pretty much above hazing for the most part for the past 10 years or so. I recall some of the other fraternities on campus having their pledges do stuff like defend a candle against a garden hose or drink a gallon of milk, but on the whole there wasn't much hazing to be seen. My fraternity just plain had none. Sure, the pledges were responsible for things like cleaning up after dinner, but nothing remotely demeaning. It made it a pretty nice place to be and eliminated feelings of resent from festering in the house.

I think its because of the generally tame nature of the Evanston campus (You hear that Kellogg? I called your campus tame! And I go to MIT! LOL) that the administration responds with a swift hammer whenever a whiff of hazing arrives. Then again, these could just be the girls from Glenbrook North at it again... When will they learn?
