Breaking news in the Appleton Post-Crescent

This past Sunday the 68,532 subscribers to the Appleton Post-Crescent received notification of our upcoming nuptials. We join many other happy couples in the Northeast Wisconsin area in making similar announcements.

We thought that it was funny that the form we filled out for the paper had no place for us to provide the details of the various degrees (college, graduate, etc.) we hold. Luckily, it had a place to list our "technical schools" and the church where we would be married. As a result, Lauren wrote the announcement word-for-word to avoid any mix-ups:

Lauren Schwartz, New York, NY, and Trond Wuellner, Cambridge, MA, plan to wed July 21, 2007 at The Renaissance Hotel, White Plains, NY. Rabbi Stephen A. Klein will perform the ceremony. The bride-to-be is the daughter of Jane and Joel Schwartz, Scarsdale, New York. The groom’s parents, James and Guri Wuellner of Menasha, are announcing the engagement. Lauren is completing her Masters degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages at Columbia University in New York. Trond is completing his MBA at the MIT Sloan School of Management. Both the bride and groom-to-be graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.

Getting Married at the John M. Carrere Mansion

John M. Carrere Home, originally uploaded by Megatrond.

This 30-room stone country estate, the 1905 summer residence to famous New York Architect John M. Carrere, is the site of Lauren's and my wedding next summer. John Carrere is the architect who designed the U.S. Capitol building.

It's a beautiful location and should make for a great time next July!

Even though I can't take credit for this photo (as Lauren took it) its one of my favorites from last weekend's celebration of Kate and Nik's wedding in Maine.

You know you've made it when...

For your birthday, you gets tons of great cards from all of your friends and your recently-extended family. The highlight this year comes from Grampy (officially Lauren's but only in terms of genetics) and his famous "El Cheapo Card Company:"

Thank you everyone for making my 28th feel less like a down-hill tumble to thirty!

Sprint to the finish

After a long absense from the realms of the blog-o-sphere, I am officially making a reappearance with new-found zeal. Is that the right word? All that I'm saying is that I'm back. Not that I went anywhere -- except Dulles, Louisville, Chicago and New York -- but the point is that I'm back above water. Well, almost. I'm in my last few days here in my internship at Diamond and I'm looking to make the most of it. I'll get into what I learned this summer at a later time. For now, here's a short list of what I've been up to lately:

  1. Wedding planning -- Check out LaurenAndTrond.com to see how the plans are shaping up so far...

  2. Working -- which includes travelling every Monday and Thursday. Yay, airlines! (end sarcasm)

  3. Running -- I love my new Nike+Plus, iPod adaptor. Its super-cool. Check out my run from last Saturday (I went from Harlem to Brooklyn):

  4. Shirking all of the non-work things I meant to do this summer. (which includes blogging)

Conducting Personal Research

As we all know, the first step in crafting a strategy is to understand the market and its underlying trends. In that regard, I've spent each of the last two weekends researching weddings and I've learned a great deal. In this same time Lauren has been feverishly planning and we officially have set a date. Well, sort of because the contracts aren't signed with the venue yet. Anyway, expect the big news to come down the pipe soon :)

As part of my "research" last weekend, I was a guest at my friends Anthony and Megan's wedding in Athens, GA. It was a great time and I was so excited to be able to celebrate with them! I spent most of my time with a beer in my hand rather than my camera, so I took only a couple of pictures. They turned out pretty good though:

The great time that I had in Athens celebrating with two people who are going places was accentuated this past weekend by another wedding of two more of my outstanding friends. This time the venue was Akumal, Mexico, and the guests of honor were Tony and Jody:

Once again, I had an amazing time and learned a ton about planning a wedding. I don't think I'll be printing out the programs in my boxers 30 minutes before the wedding, thanks though Tony! I would, however, like to be able to dance like them:

Rome Antics

So, this past weekend I took Lauren to Rome with an agenda :) She's too smart to not realize what was going on, but too bright to jinx it as well. So, my challenge was to figure out how to surprise her while still making it as special as possible.

We arrived in Rome on Saturday morning and headed directly to our hotel to shake off the jetlag with a shower before heading out to the ruins for the day. Our schedule was extremely tight for the four days and we wanted to see everything. We started out by wandering around the Cicus Maximus and stumbling upon the mouth of truth:

Immediately afterwards, we made the hike to Caracalla's Baths. The baths are Lauren's favorite place in Roman history and have been since she and her friend Kate worked on a project about them in college. The designers who built these baths were unbelievable -- their scale, their design and the pure engineering necessary to put them together is really impressive. I totally understand why these are Lauren's favorite -- they're probably mine too! After my first glimpse, I knew. This was the spot. The ring moved from my camera bag to my pocket.

The weather was perfect and the setting was ideal when the moment finally presented itself. We were checking out the original marble tiled floors in the Vestibulum overlooking the Natatio when I set my camera bag down and asked if she would marry me. She (thankfully) said "yes!" and is now officially my fiancee!

After a few minutes alone, we were joined by a few additional tourists. One was kind enough to take the first picture of us together:

Oh yeah, she likes the ring too!

We couldn't be happier and look forward to many great memories in the future as well! Here are some pictures from our first few days in Rome for you to enjoy:

Pictures from Colombia, Finally

Bear with me, but I took a shitload of pictures when I was in Colombia. I *still* haven't pared them down to isolate the best, nor have I image corrected any of them yet. I'm not sure when I'll do this exactly, but it's on my extensive to-do list. For now, be happy with seeing the 321 best that I've selected from the 1000+ that I took. Pretty much Lauren is the only person that I've subjected to the full weight of the pictures... So far :) Big warning, these are crazy out of order because of the naming scheme my two cameras use...Enjoy:
