This past Sunday the 68,532 subscribers to the Appleton Post-Crescent received notification of our upcoming nuptials. We join many other happy couples in the Northeast Wisconsin area in making similar announcements. We thought that it was funny that the form we filled out for the paper had no place for us to provide the details of the various degrees (college, graduate, etc.) we hold. Luckily, it had a place to list our "technical schools" and the church where we would be married. As a result, Lauren wrote the announcement word-for-word to avoid any mix-ups:
Lauren Schwartz, New York, NY, and Trond Wuellner, Cambridge, MA, plan to wed July 21, 2007 at The Renaissance Hotel, White Plains, NY. Rabbi Stephen A. Klein will perform the ceremony. The bride-to-be is the daughter of Jane and Joel Schwartz, Scarsdale, New York. The groom’s parents, James and Guri Wuellner of Menasha, are announcing the engagement. Lauren is completing her Masters degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages at Columbia University in New York. Trond is completing his MBA at the MIT Sloan School of Management. Both the bride and groom-to-be graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.

This 30-room stone country estate, the 1905 summer residence to famous New York Architect John M. Carrere, is the site of Lauren's and my wedding next summer. John Carrere is the architect who designed the U.S. Capitol building.
It's a beautiful location and should make for a great time next July!

Thank you everyone for making my 28th feel less like a down-hill tumble to thirty!

As part of my "research" last weekend, I was a guest at my friends Anthony and Megan's wedding in Athens, GA. It was a great time and I was so excited to be able to celebrate with them! I spent most of my time with a beer in my hand rather than my camera, so I took only a couple of pictures. They turned out pretty good though:
The great time that I had in Athens celebrating with two people who are going places was accentuated this past weekend by another wedding of two more of my outstanding friends. This time the venue was Akumal, Mexico, and the guests of honor were Tony and Jody:
Once again, I had an amazing time and learned a ton about planning a wedding. I don't think I'll be printing out the programs in my boxers 30 minutes before the wedding, thanks though Tony! I would, however, like to be able to dance like them:

We arrived in Rome on Saturday morning and headed directly to our hotel to shake off the jetlag with a shower before heading out to the ruins for the day. Our schedule was extremely tight for the four days and we wanted to see everything. We started out by wandering around the Cicus Maximus and stumbling upon the mouth of truth:

Immediately afterwards, we made the hike to Caracalla's Baths. The baths are Lauren's favorite place in Roman history and have been since she and her friend Kate worked on a project about them in college. The designers who built these baths were unbelievable -- their scale, their design and the pure engineering necessary to put them together is really impressive. I totally understand why these are Lauren's favorite -- they're probably mine too! After my first glimpse, I knew. This was the spot. The ring moved from my camera bag to my pocket.
The weather was perfect and the setting was ideal when the moment finally presented itself. We were checking out the original marble tiled floors in the Vestibulum overlooking the Natatio when I set my camera bag down and asked if she would marry me. She (thankfully) said "yes!" and is now officially my fiancee!
After a few minutes alone, we were joined by a few additional tourists. One was kind enough to take the first picture of us together:

Oh yeah, she likes the ring too!

We couldn't be happier and look forward to many great memories in the future as well! Here are some pictures from our first few days in Rome for you to enjoy:
